As an expert in family-centered design, Kelly Rogers of Kelly Rogers Interiors knows how to make functional, stunning space that both kids and parents love. The “Boy-Proof Shared Bathroom” Inspiration Board she designed at Splash Newton is no exception, fully showcasing her philosophy that family-friendly spaces can be sensible and long-lasting while maintaining a gorgeous aesthetic.

This shared bathroom was designed with young elementary-aged brothers in mind, inspired by Kelly’s own children. The design skEWS towards the modern end of the stylistic spectrum, evident in the floating Lacava Linea vanity with a double integrated top. Finished in horizon blue with matte black metal and Top Knobs Kinney Pull polished chrome hardware, the vanity’s drawers and open shelving provides easy, accessible storage and even has a bar for hanging a hand towel. Kelly included a Crate & Barrel Gage grey and white step stool, which can be tucked underneath the vanity until the boys can easily reach the Grohe Essence faucets on their own. Two Kallista One mirrors hang over the vanity, and flanking each mirror are Kohler ’s Purist sconces. The sconces have a built-in nightlight function, a perfect feature for children of any age.

Like the faucet, the shower and bathtub fixtures are Grohe with a polished chrome finish. The fixtures, from Grohe’s Essence collection, feature graphic cues for function and color coding for water temperatures. While this allows for more independence in the bathroom, it also helps to prevent potential accidents. The bathtub, Duravit’s Architect tub, is accompanied by Century Bath Work’s shower door screen with rounded edges and polished chrome hinges. The splash guard certainly makes bath time easier for Mom and Dad, and the Kohler San Souci touch-less toilet also helps in the cleaning department. The sleek one-piece is easy to operate and even easier to clean.
The bathroom accessories – a towel bar, toilet paper holder, and robe hook – are all from Grohe’s Essential collection. Also in polished chrome, the accessories perfectly compliment the Grohe faucet and fixtures. Between the matte black, chrome, and gunmetal finishes, the bathroom features a variety of metals for a unique, masculine look that will stand the test of time.
Continuing with the modern aesthetic, Kelly selected Ann Sacks’ Dessiner Field Tile in the Chiaro Mix for the bathroom floor. Benjamin Moore’s Cliffside Gray paint covers the walls, and a stunning piece of artwork by Erin Clark titled “River” is featured in the room. The blue hues in the mixed-media painting tie in the effortlessly cool ASP & Company Blue Kali Maze Textile window treatments. For the shower walls, Kelly selected Ann Sacks’ Savoy Field tile in Cottonwood, and to add a finishing touch, she chose the Savoy box liner tile in Lantern as a crisp, narrow horizontal pinstripe between the rows of subway tile. For the shower niches, she opted for the same tile colors but chose the smaller-scale Savoy Offset Mosaic tile and Savoy quarter round.
Although the space is designed for younger boys, it’s easy to see how this modern, cool and functional bathroom will seamlessly grow with the boys well into their young adulthood.
