Tricia McDonagh of Patricia McDonagh Interior Design creates spaces that are simultaneously in-style and timeless. Trained at the Rhode Island School of Design, Tricia is known for her versatility, and is drawn to grace and simplicity, whether modern or classic. With a strong focus on interior architecture, Tricia creates spaces that seamlessly align with the overall context of each home she designs. During her visit to the Splash Newton showroom, Patricia created an “Old World New World” master bathroom that perfectly embodies her effortlessly beautiful and soothing signature style.
Tricia chose Stone Forest’s Calma bathtub as the focal point of the bathroom for its impactful and sculptural qualities. The free-standing bathtub, carved from a single block marquina taupe marble, evokes serenity with its gentle curves and clean lines. To assist the tub as the statement piece in the bathroom, Tricia designed a custom-made countertop. “I wanted the countertop to have a monolithic, natural quality, but be quiet enough as not to compete with the tub.” Thus, the vanity is the honed marquina marble slab front with two undermount Kohler Ladena sinks in dune. She paired this with two wall-mounted polished nickel Samuel Heath 3-hole faucets from the Landmark Industrial Collection.
Above the floating stone custom vanity are two Samuel Heath square mirrors with a matte black finish accent. Three Hudson Valley Heirloom lights hang on either side of the mirrors balancing the strong contemporary form of the mirrors, with a vintage quality. On the accent wall behind the vanity, antique mirrored Ann Sacks tiles stylishly elevate the mixed materials.
The Calma tub, a standout against the sea of white walls and gray hues from Farrow & Ball, looks perfectly placed on the Paris Ceramics Grey Barr Concrete Paver floor. The contemporary concrete is “distressed and textured, and has the appearance of authentic antique, reclaimed limestone.” The woven leather 19th C. English stool adds warmth, as well as a spot to rest, or hold additional bath towels. The woven linen fabric from Charles Spada used for the window treatments plays well with the textured floor finish.
The showerhead and fixtures, also in polished nickel from Samuel Heath’s Landmark Industrial Collection, have the same bold, beautiful form and engraved detailing as the sink faucets. Kallista’s stucco white Barbara Barry toilet perfectly complements the aged nickel toilet paper roll holder, robe hook, and towel bar from Watermark’s Elan Vital collection. An iron table from First Dibs holds a glass of wine or bath supplies by the tub, and Tricia placed a stunning vase on it to complete the bathroom. The carefully selected standout pieces from Splash, paired with artfully mixed materials in a restrained palette, transform the space to stand the test of time.
